If you enjoyed my previous list of wholesome anime recommendations, then you need to add the following 3 anime to your watchlist because they will undoubtedly provide you comfort in these crazy and trying times.

  1. Kamisama Hajimemashita

Anime

Crunchyroll / Kamisama Hajimemashita

What to do when your mother dies from an illness and your father runs away from home because of his debts, leaving you homeless and broke during high school? Accidentally become a god and live in a shrine rent-free – just like our regular human girl Nanami. She also gets a fox familiar, Tomoe, who has deep abandonment issues and is unwilling to serve a human. However, he gets forced to form a contract with Nanami after saving her, to help with her divine duties. She meets a lot of friends along the way and starts to catch unexpected feelings for Tomoe.

Everyone has obstacles and unbearable difficulties in life but there are so many people around us that will love us and support us endlessly. I fell in love with this anime because of Nanami’s unwavering determination to make everyone get along with each other regardless of their differences. She shows that selflessness is not a weakness and that facing the truth is important when helping others.

IMDb Rating: 8.1

  1. Spy x Family

Anime

Crunchyroll / Spy x Family

The anime follows a cute yet dysfunctional family where in order to complete his missions a spy, Twilight, adopts an orphan, Anya, who can read minds . He also needs a wife so he accidentally meets a beautiful woman, Yor, who also happens to be looking for a fake-boyfriend and marries her – though she is an assassin. These two characters are oblivious of each others’ true occupation but Anya knows every single thing that they think – including Twilight’s sudden thoughts of taking Anya back to the orphanage because of her incompetent behavior, which totally freaks her out and motivates her to do her best to stay in the family.

Twilight wants to create a better future where no children have to be sad by demolishing corrupt politicians and frenzied nationalists. So, he starts to care and love his fake-family as if it’s real and gets frequent anxiety attacks for slightly messing up his missions. This anime will surely make you laugh, shriek in wholesomeness, and keep you on the edge of your seat. The unconditional love they have for each other, despite being strangers, will make you feel excited and joyful.

IMDb Rating: 8.8

  1. Haikyuu!!

Anime

Crunchyroll / Haikyuu

At first glance ‘Haikyuu!!’ might seem like a classic sports anime featuring a bunch of dudes playing volleyball. That’s partly true, but it is so much more than that! The relationships between the characters are so pure,heart-warming, and wholesome. The story is mainly about Hinata – aka a ball of sunshine – who is extremely passionate about volleyball and wants to join the high school team. However, height is key to becoming a great volleyball player – and Hinata greatly lacks it. Yet he never gives up and his teammates and his opponents motivate and train him.

Personally, this anime is the sole reason why I survived quarantine. When I had nothing to do and started losing the will to wake up, ‘Haikyuu!!’ hyped me up and motivated me to follow my passions. It gave me hope that things will get better. We might lose sometimes in life but that does not cancel out all the positive experiences we have had before. We need to always move forward and not give up on ourselves. We will all certainly win eventually.
