The pandemic has certainly brought out the best and the worst in people. All over the world, evil has largely been demonstrated during these covid times. For example, authoritarianism has erupted globally causing a massive wave of protests, racism somehow still remains as a major challenge to overcome in some countries, and there’s the destruction of our natural resources caused by fires and floods because of poor environmental management. All of this evil, has truly challenged our previous beliefs and offered a new point of view for many people. The pandemic has allowed us to view these problems under a new light. Perhaps the solution lies in resetting the world, its norms, and how things are done.
On the other hand, millions have made it their mission to help those in need during the lockdown. Some participated in donations, others helped find shelter for those without, while countless others tried to help by posting about the latest news on social media. Disregarding the effectiveness of these actions, these people’s intentions have shown the world that there may still be hope, that one day we may be able to get out of this rut.
These challenges we have been facing in the past year have allowed us to start working on the transition of the world from old to new. From old thoughts and opinions to new ones that are more inclusive and fair; from old technology to new ones that can help us access areas we never have been able to; and even from old systems to newer ones that can adapt to the new norms and changes of the world. The pandemic could be what leads us into a new renaissance for humanity. A true cultural reset.
